CTI Digital achieves ISO 42001 certification, the global standard for managing AI systems

After an audit by the Centre for Assessment, CTI Digital is pleased to announce it has achieved ISO 42001 certification, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to AI governance.

ISO 42001 is the first global standard for managing AI systems, and it works in parallel with CTI Digital’s existing ISO 9001 (quality control) and ISO 27001 (security) certifications as part of a single Integrated Management System. This integration ensures AI governance is baked into CTI Digital processes, and affirms to the agency’s clients that innovation comes with a proven commitment to accountability.

Through a structured framework (“Plan-Do-Check-Act”), ISO 42001 helps organisations develop, deploy, and manage AI systems responsibly and ethically. The standard does this through its focus on simple, risk-based steps that correspond with four core principles – risk management; governance and accountability; transparency and trustworthiness; and alignment with ethical and legal expectations.

Adopting an AI Management System and following ISO 42001 confirms CTI Digital’s diligence in working with AI, from transparent decision-making to the mitigation of legal and reputational risks.

Chris Gee, Infrastructure and ISO Compliance Office at CTI Digital, said, “AI is now part of how we design, build and support digital products for our clients. ISO 42001 gives independent assurance that we do that responsibly.”

Chris Burgess, Group CEO, said, “Organisations want the capability of AI, but they also want control – over their data, their systems and how AI is governed. That is at the heart of sovereign AI and of Croft, our private AI platform. Every AI tool we use is assessed, approved and governed, and the data our clients trust us with is protected at every step. ISO 42001 gives us an independently assessed foundation beneath that proposition, demonstrating that we’re building and deploying AI responsibly, securely and with accountability.”

The certification covers AI impact assessments, procurement and deployment checks, a register of approved tools and a clear path for staff to raise concerns about AI. See the CfA website for more details on ISO 42001 and a list of benefits for organisations, including:

  • how ISO 42001 can differentiate an organisation in the market;

  • how the standard can foster a culture of continuous improvement;

  • and the embedding of fairness, privacy safeguards, and human oversight.
