FAQs

When does GA4 replace UA?

Google announced that it will sunset Universal Analytics July 1st, 2023.

In place of Universal Analytics (UA), GA4 will take over as the exclusive and default measurement tool for digital analytics measurement in GA as per Google's decision.

What version of Google Analytics am I running?

You can log in to your Google Analytics account at analytics.google.com. Click on “All Accounts” in the top left hand corner to see a list of all accounts and properties you have access to.

The quickest way to see if based on your property ID number. If the number is prefixed with UA-, you are running universal analytics. If your property ID is not prefixed with any letters, you are running GA4.

Will I still be able to utilise historical data from UA?

Google has announced that users can download their historical data from UA until the end of December 2023. The historical data will remain accessible for at least six months after UA stops processing new data. However, once this time has passed, the historical data will become unavailable for access.

What is a Google Analytics “Property”?

Google defines a "property" in Google Analytics as the place where a company's online data is processed. It is where the actual data processing occurs in Google Analytics.

A Google Analytics property is a part of a Google Analytics account and serves as the level of the hierarchy for data processing. The account is the entry point where users log in and helps organise data, particularly when dealing with multiple properties. The processing of data is done at the property level.

Prior to the introduction of GA4, a company with both a website and an app had a single account and two separate properties – one for each. However, with GA4, a single property can now contain data for both the website and the app.
